Paul Englishby
Paul Englishby studied at Goldsmiths' College and at the Royal Academy of Music where he received the Charles Lucas prize for composition and the Arthur Hervey Scholarship, as well as receiving a BBC Sound on Film Commission.
He is 2009 Winner of an ASCAP award (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) for his film score to Miss Pettigrew Lives for Day.
Recent projects include the score for a new Nick Hornby scripted film, An Education; the music for the forthcoming ITV drama An Englishman in New York, starring John Hurt; a dance work for the Royal Opera House: The Thief of Baghdad, choreographed by Will Tuckett, which enjoyed a sell out run , and the music for the Royal Shakespeare Company's critically acclaimed season which included A Midsummer Night's Dream, Hamlet and Love's Labours Lost.
Paul has just completed a large public arts commission involving several pieces for choir, orchestra, chamber group and school children, in commemoration of the Combe Down Stone Mines Project in the city of Bath.
In recent years Paul composed Everything is you for the delta saxophone quartet, which was released on their latest album to stunning reviews,he scored the feature films Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day directed by Bharat Nalluri, Magicians, directed by Andrew O’Connor ,and Debbie Isitt's Brit-flick Confetti, starring Martin Freeman and Jessica Stevenson for 20TH Century Fox. Paul wrote the music for the film Ten Minutes Older featuring works from award winning directors Spike Lee, Werner Herzog, Bernardo Bertolucci, Mike Figgis, Jean Luc-Goddard and more.
As orchestrator, conductor and pianist, Paul has worked on with some of the country's leading ensembles; The London Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, London Musici, Tallis Chamber Choir, Fibonacci Sequence, B.B.C. Concert Orchestra amongst others. Paul conducts studio sessions and film scores here and abroad and has also on an assortment of recordings and broadcasts for radio and television.
Current projects include the music for the RSC's Twelfth Night and Noel Coward's Private Lives for the Salisbury Playhouse .He is Music Director for the Universal movie Your Highness, starring Natalie Portman and James Franco, and has scored the BBC Film of Hamlet, starring David Tennant, due for release on Christmas Day.
